A Court of Thorns and Roses ft Banana bread

I finally gave A Court of Thorns and Roses a go after hearing everyone talk about it. At first, I wasn’t completely hooked, and Feyre’s character didn’t fully win me over. But as I kept reading, I started to understand her more - and found myself enjoying the story (and secretly liking Lucien more than I expected). Paired it with banana bread, which I thought I didn’t like, but it turned out to be a perfect surprise - just like this book.

Margo’s Got Money Troubles ft Rocky road bites

I picked up Margo’s Got Money Troubles not knowing what to expect, and honestly—it surprised me. Margo is one of the most real, flawed, and oddly lovable characters I’ve read in a while. I didn’t agree with all her choices, but I couldn’t help rooting for her. Full review now live—paired with a treat that’s just as rocky as her journey.

Talking at night ft Nutella treat

I listened to Talking at Night by Claire Daverley after being pulled in by the beautiful title and the promise of an emotional love story. What I got instead was a slow, frustrating will-they-won’t-they with characters who seemed stuck in their own heads. I paired it with a Nutella treat—unexpectedly delicious, unlike the book. Full thoughts on the blog.

I Want to Die But I Want to Eat Tteokbokki ft Strawberry cake

Some books don’t just tell a story—they feel like sitting down with a friend who truly understands you. I Want to Die But I Want to Eat Tteokbokki by Baek Sehee is one of those books. Raw, honest, and deeply introspective, it explores the messy contradictions of mental health, self-worth, and finding small joys in everyday life. It doesn’t promise a cure, but it does offer something just as important: validation. And what better way to pair a book like this than with something that brings a little comfort? For me, that’s strawberry cake—because sometimes, remembering that cake exists is enough to brighten even the hardest days.

Good materials ft tea biscuits

I picked up Good Material at the library on a whim, not realizing I was about to dive into a breakup story that was equal parts frustrating, funny, and painfully real. Andy, a struggling comedian in his thirties, has just been dumped, and he spends the book obsessing over why. While he starts off as a bit of a mess (okay, a lot of a mess), he slowly grew on me, making me both root for him and roll my eyes at him in equal measure.

Would I recommend it? Maybe. Did it make me think about relationships, breakups, and male friendships in a new way? Definitely. Also, the perfect treat pairing? A tea biscuit—because, much like Andy, it’s simple, a little dry, but somehow still comforting.

The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches

The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches promised magic, and it absolutely delivered. At first, I wasn’t sure what to expect, but a few chapters in, I was laughing and completely hooked. Mika Moon is a delightful character—charming, flawed, and just trying to find where she belongs. If you love cozy fantasy, found family, and a little bit of romance, this one’s for you. Oh, and there’s chocolate involved—both in the story and in my perfect treat pairing.

Week 2: Days at Morisaki Bookshop ft Carrot cake and coffee

I picked up Days at the Morisaki Bookshop right after finishing Welcome to Hyunam-dong Bookshop, hoping for the same cozy, bookshop magic. At first, I wasn’t sure it would measure up—but as the story unfolded, I found myself slowly falling for its quiet charm. Much like carrot cake, a treat I once doubted but now love, this book grew on me in the best way. Keep reading to see why!

Week 1: Welcome to hyunam-dong Ft tea and stroopwafel

What do you do when life burns you out? For Yeongju, the answer is bold: she quits her job, divorces her husband, and leaves the city behind to open a quiet bookshop in a small neighborhood. But starting over isn’t as easy as it sounds. It’s messy, emotional, and full of unexpected moments—like the people who walk into her store, each carrying their own stories.

Welcome to Hyunam-dong is a warm, comforting tale about finding yourself, starting fresh, and creating a place where connection thrives. It’s the kind of story that softens you, much like a stroopwafel resting on a cup of tea—starting out a little closed off, but melting into something gooey, rich, and utterly delightful.

This book will leave you craving more—more hope, more warmth, and maybe even a stroopwafel or two.
